O’Sullivan Facade – Safety Beach, VIC (renovation)

[twenty20 img1=”4361″ img2=”4360″ width=”100%” offset=”0.2″]

SAFETY BEACH, VIC

Although the O’Sullivan home was built in a beautiful waterfront location, the facade just didn’t do the property justice. It was very cream and flat looking with minimal points of interest to give it any wow factor.

They wanted a more interesting and eye-catching facade that had some ‘pop’ to it in amongst a sea of other underwhelming ‘basic built’ houses developed in their street in 2007.

They knew the style they liked but weren’t sure how to interpret those colours and materials onto their home. They were bound by a Body Corporate to include a certain amount of stone and specific landscaping, so we in turn had to incorporate these into the facade design.

We wanted their new facade to be crisp and inviting, whilst fitting within these regulations, so we used a combination of timber, vertical cladding, render and stone. By using a variety of neutral colours with the products we specified, we were able to give their home beautiful depth and stunning street appeal that had previously been non-existent.

Christie Facade – Samson, WA (renovation)

[twenty20 img1=”4716″ img2=”4710″ width=”100%” offset=”0.2″]

SAMSON, WA

As you can see, the Christie’s original house facade was very brown and quite heavy and scrappy looking.

They came to us knowing that they wanted a larger carport/garage and to modernise their home’s facade in some way (with a lean toward a Hamptons style), but were struggling to work out exactly how.

We took inspiration for our design from the images they had gathered together on Pinterest, as well as from our own extensive experience transforming 80’s and 90’s houses.

Although we wanted to minimise the amount of brown on their home, we did want to introduce timber back in to the design in a clean, crisp and modern way. Juxtaposed against the painted rendered walls, the timber adds beautiful warmth and a welcoming feeling to the home.

The darker trims and garage door give us great contrast and help to add visual interest to the facade. In addition, we wanted the garage and house to look connected, so we designed this fabulous flyover roof to create a covered walkway between the two buildings.

The landscaping and pot plants finish the ‘scene’ by helping to soften the overall effect and assist in visually ‘anchor’ the house (essential for homes located above road level).

Halloran Facade – Thornbury, VIC (renovation)

[twenty20 img1=”3412″ img2=”3411″ width=”100%” offset=”0.2″]

THORNBURY, VIC

The original facade of the Halloran’s home was old fashioned and tired with minimal street appeal. It looked flat & uninteresting and the landscaping was very scrappy.

They wanted a more modern looking facade whilst being respectful of the original house style and design. They wanted the front entrance to be accessed front-on, instead of directly from the driveway, while maintaining the location of the front door. They came to us with a Pinterest board full of ideas which acted like a design compass, giving us a good feel for the look & style they were hoping to achieve.

Painting the trims and updating the landscaping were a ‘given’, but needed to be done in a certain way to create visual balance and a contrasting yet cohesive effect (blending old with new) that would add real wow factor without too much additional expense.

As per their wishes, we designed the facade/exterior to incorporate the existing brickwork and used modern colours & materials to create  overall interest and a more commanding front entrance.

We re-designed the portico structure to enter the house from the front and off-set the heaviness of the brick with simple, well-considered landscaping to provide structured softness and a more inviting effect.

Freedman Facade – Bangalow, NSW (renovation)

[twenty20 img1=”4545″ img2=”4544″ width=”100%” offset=”0.2″]

BANGALOW, NSW

If this isn’t one major transformation, we don’t know what is!! As you can see, the original facade was very brick, very brown and very 90’s; not at all what our clients wanted for their Bangalow (near Byron Bay) home.

In order to help them create their Dream Home, the Freedmans provided us with a plan of the house, together with an extensive Pinterest board filled with images of houses they liked. One of their main wish-list items was natural light – and LOTS of it!  They also wanted car parking under the deck as well as beautiful, spacious outdoor living areas and a resort-like pool, incorporating a Cabana and swim-up ‘beach’. In terms of the ‘look’ and vibe they wanted; relaxed, modern and respectful of the surroundings.

Before beginning on the design, we discussed the roof-line and whether the Freedmans would be open to changing this. Their answer (a resounding YES!!) meant we were able to completely transform the look of their home. In addition we recommended render, timber (timber-look product) and stone to achieve a crisp and modern look that blends nicely into their hinterland environment. It’s practical and smart and a design that will last the test of time.
